  • Volunteer: Adopt-a-Reception

    Deadline for application: ongoing

Do you love to make treats for a crowd? Every month -- usually the first Thursday of the month -- The Arts Center has an opening reception for the Main Gallery exhibition. The attendance for these receptions can range from 35-75 people, and the event is always more festive if there are some snacks on hand. Usually a small group of friends volunteer together to provide a variety of savory and sweet dishes.

If you'd like more information, please contact Katheryn Byram at katherynbyram@yahoo.com.

    Volunteer: ArtShop/Front Desk

    Deadline for application: ongoing

We are looking for volunteers for our front desk in the ArtShop, starting immediately. Volunteers should be available for at least one shift during Tues - Friday.  Shifts are 2.5 hours each: first shift from 12-2:30pm, and second shift from 2:30-5pm.

We ask volunteers to commit for a minimum of a year, or if a student then for an academic year. After the first year of consistent volunteering, ArtShop volunteers are entitled to 15% off ArtShop & Gallery purchases.

ArtShop volunteers will be required to present a professional demeanor, welcome visitors warmly, and be comfortable answering basic questions about The Arts Center’s Events and Public Programs. Volunteers will be expected to get to know the staff members’ responsibilities, so that more in-depth visitor questions can be referred correctly.

Additionally, Front Desk volunteers will be expected to perform receptionist and cashier duties such as answering and routing phone calls, completing class registration transactions, and processing sales from the ArtShop and Galleries. Office work such as sticking mailing labels on, stuffing envelopes, and other similar tasks are part of the job description.

Traffic through The Arts Center can vary wildly -- some days are extremely busy, other days are very quiet. During slow days, volunteers must keep themselves entertained in ways that do not disrupt the ongoing duties of the staff. For example: reviewing our website, reading about our programs and artists, or even working on their own small projects (such as reading or arts & crafts) that will not be messy or interfere with their primary volunteer responsibilities.

    Contract Position: At-Risk Education Coordinator

Deadline for application: May 22, 2012

The Arts Center seeks an At-Risk Education Coordinator with a passion for the arts.  The successful candidate is a self-motivated team player who possesses strong planning and time management skills. The position manages all off-site education programs, oversees a changing team of over 25 teaching artists and is responsible for working with partnering educational sites to coordinate multiple artist residencies in Linn and Benton Counties. The At-Risk Coordinator is a contract position with flexible hours (generally 15 - 20 hours per week).  The At-Risk Education is supported by grants and donations, so the ability to plan, document, and evaluate projects is essential. A valid Oregon Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation is required.

The Arts Education Coordinator works with a small, team-oriented staff that runs The Arts Center’s programs. Previous experience working with at-risk youth is required.  Fluency in Spanish is strongly desired.
