About The Artist:
Barbara Gordon has been creating things from fiber, in one form or another, for most of her life. At age 5 her mother taught her basic embroidery; her grandmother taught her to knit and crochet. After she retired in 2000, her attention turned to art quits, purely done for fun.
Raised in southern Colorado, Barbara moved with her family to Minnesota when she was 17, where she attended the University of Minnesota, majoring in Human Services and concentrating on drug and alcohol abuse counseling. After several years she moved to San Diego where for 2 decades she worked as a purchasing agent, initially in the R&D lab of an electronics firm, then for defense contractors, and eventually for a school district.
Through all her life Barbara has always relied on various projects to provide stress relief, home decoration, and most of her clothing. After she retired in 2000, her attention turned to projects done purely for fun when she discovered art quilts. Her lifelong passion for color, texture, pattern, and dimension was turned loose; starting with her huge stash of rayons, wools, and other fabrics unsuitable for traditional quilts, she began creating art quilts with impressionistic and abstract designs.
Barbara Gordon is a member of the Contemporary Fiberarts Guild, for which she is the Newsletter Editor.
