Artists' Statement, 'Inside, Out' - 'Portals,' Winter Show & Silent Auction, 2011:
Donna and Don Jepsen-Minyard have been making things together for more than thirty years. Their joint portfolio began when Don made eyes at Donna in Colorado. Donna made a beeline in the other direction. Since then, they have made a business, a new house (from an old one) and a baby girl.
But their resumes predate their marriage: Don was raised by farmers, a master cabinetmaker and a kinetic sculptor in Oklahoma; while back on
Ye Olde Cape Cod, Donna was apprenticed at an early age to her boatbuilder dad. Her mom taught Donna "big-hammer" carpentry whenever another room was needed in the family home.
Both Don and Donna have worked professionally in creative arenas, from woodworking to printmaking. They expend most of their energy these days as teachers, urging students from age five to eighteen toward horizons of truth and beauty. Eventually, they hope to become itinerate elves, and spread the joy of building things far and wide.
