Statement:

In all my paintings, I strive for compositional simplicity and a kind of sparseness of form. I want to leave something for the imagination of the viewer, so I don’t supply every detail.
Working spontaneously, I try to respond more to my own mood while I am painting, than a preconceived idea. It’s important for me to get into a calm frame of mind before painting, and I hope that viewers of my work will also feel tranquil.
My encaustic paintings to date are semi-abstract explorations of textures, colors and shapes from the natural world. Chinese and Japanese traditional art is an important influence, and my enduring passion is Chinese brush painting.
