Bonnie Wedekind-Albright — Fiber

Artist Statement

I weave because I am intrigued by the complexity of the structures and use of textures.

I weave with wire because the outcomes are so colorful, reflective and alive. Manipulating the wire after it comes of the loom is a whole new process that I continue to learn about.

I currently weave on a 24” LeClerc 4 harness table loom. My goals are to weave on my 48” Macomber 10 harness floor loom exploring larger pieces and more intricate patterns.

Although my pieces are mostly coated copper or anodized aluminum wire, I am drawn to natural fibers and now explore interlacing wire warp with stainless and other wires and the use of bamboo and grasses as weft. The result is a mix of unusual reflective combinations of materials.

I have been a fiber enthusiast for many years. Knitting, spinning, locker hooking are some of my other interests. I began weaving with silk, wool and cotton. I continue to explore natural and other fibers in my work.
