Dan Wise — photography

Dan Wise is a member of the Photo Arts Guild, located in Corvallis.

Statement with work for Far Away, an exhibit celebrating the da Vinci Days Festival theme “Cosmos” for 2010: “Railroads evoke strong emotions for many. They had the most influence on the development of a growing nation. Their tracks, with their endless curves and intersections, remind us of where we have been.”

I grew up on the East Coast in a small town north of Boston where I developed an interest in photography and spent many hours in the darkroom as well as many dollars on slide film.

In 1973 I moved to Oregon to attend Oregon State University where school, work, marriage and raising a family seemed to take precedence over photography.

In 2005 after almost 25 years in the landscape business, I switched gears and attended Linn Benton Community College spending a year as the school newspaper editor and earning a journalism degree.

While I had been shooting digitally with a point and shoot camera, at school I discovered the world of the digital SLR and am now fully converted to that medium. I now work in Corvallis at one of the few independent camera shops left in the valley, do freelance photography and write occasionally for the local paper. I am interested in a wide variety of subjects but seem to be drawn to the endless variety of shapes and lines in landscapes; whether natural or man made.
